The Green Gold – Mongolian Rangeland Research Center (GGMRRC) shared Mongolia’s experience on “Sustainable Rangeland Use in a One Health Context” at the international One Health conference held in Dushanbe.
The presentation emphasized how Mongolia’s vast rangeland covering over 70% of the country form the basis of food security, ecosystem health, and herder livelihoods. GGMRRC showcased Mongolia’s Responsible Nomads Code of Practice for Sustainable Development Standard (MNS 6891:2025), which promotes carbon-neutral, traceable, and animal-friendly livestock production.
Key initiatives include large-scale rangeland and grazing impact monitoring, community-based rangeland management through Pasture User Groups (PUGs), digital veterinary certification systems, and integration of carbon and biodiversity goals.
Mongolia’s experience demonstrates how One Health principles can link ecological resilience, animal health, and human well-being in pastoral systems. The Mongolian model was recognized as a strong example of community-driven and science-based rangeland governance in the Central Asian region.
